Spanish Steps in Rome.
The Spanish Steps are a stairway of 135 steps that leads from the Piazza di Spagna at the bottom, to the Trinita dei Monti church at the top. A steep staircase, it is named the Spanish Steps because the Spanish Embassy to the Holy See is located at its base, in the Piazza di Spagna. At the foot of the steps, you will also find the Fontana della Barcaccia, a Baroque-style fountain from the 16th century.
The Spanish Steps can be easily reached by taking the Rome Metro Line A (red line). Spagna Station of the Line A is located in front of the Spanish Steps, at the top, next to the Trinita dei Monti church. There is also a bus stop in front of the church, at the top of the stairs, serving riders on bus line 119. If you are traveling from below the Spanish Steps, there are a few bus stops located nearby. The Rome Metro 100 line bus makes a stop at Mercedes station on Via di Capo le Case. The line 119 bus route makes a stop at Spagna on Via del Babuino. Both of these stops are within a 5-minute walking distance of the bottom of the stairs.
When visiting the Spanish Steps, there are plenty of great spots to check out nearby. Travel north from the Trinita dei Monti church along Piazza della Trinita dei Monti to reach Villa Medici, a renaissance palace with gardens and guided tours. This is only about a 5-minute walk away. Or, at the bottom of the Spanish Steps, there are several boutique and luxury shops within a 10-minute walking distance, east of the River Tiber.
If you are planning to spend the day in Rome, there are many popular tourist attractions that you can check out nearby. Landmarks within a short walking distance include Trevi Fontain, the Pantheon, and Piazza Navona. Guided tours and sightseeing buses that serve this area will visit many of these locations in addition to making stops at the Roman Forum and Colosseum in ancient Rome's historic centre.
There are several highly rated hotels near the Spanish Steps in Rome. The Hotel Hassler is located immediately next to the Trinita dei Monti, and the Hotel de la Ville is immediately beside it. These include Crossing Condotti, Portrait Roma, and the Bulgari Hotel Roma, situated close to the River Tiber.
