To find your way around Rio de Janeiro, we recommend that you have a look at our interactive map on top of the page. Here we have marked out the most popular tourist attractions and landmarks around town, giving you the chance to learn their location and a little more about each point of interest. You can also download the map or print it if you prefer a non-digital version.
When visiting Rio de Janeiro, it can be good to know that the city is divided into four zones – North, West, South and Centro. The majority of the tourist attractions are located either in the city center or in the southern parts of town, while the North and West zones are mainly residential or business areas.
Down south you find Copacabana Beach and Ipanema Beach, together with the large football stadium Maracanã and the massive Jesus Christ statue on the Corcovado mountain. The central parts of town, which are displayed in the upper part of our map, is home to for example several museums, monuments and the unique parade-arena Sambódromo which is home to the Rio de Janeiro Carnival.
When it comes to getting around town, there are several convenient options to find in Rio de Janeiro. One of the most flexible alternatives are the yellow cabs found pretty much all over town which will easily get you from point A to point B. There is also Uber and similar services, which normally works well but can require you to brush up on your portuguese.
Another option that is highly recommended is to choose the metro that links the southern parts of town with both the city center and the western parts. The metro also connects the different tourist attractions found both in the south and the center to each other. Additionally there are a number of different tourist bus options, both bookable ones and hop-on hop-off buses giving you a chance to see the most popular tourist attractions.
