The Museo Nazionale Etrusco di Villa Giulia (translated in English as, National Etruscan Museum) is the world’s most important museum honoring the ancient Etruscan and Faliscan civilizations. It can be found in Villa Giulia, a 16th century palace, near the entrance to the Villa Borghese gardens.
Using the Rome Metro public transit system, Museo Nazionale Etrusco is easily accessible for tourists. Flamino station on the A Line (red line) is the closest metro station. From here, it is about a 15-minute walk north, to reach the entrance to the museum at Villa Giulia. Tram lines 2, and 3, make several stops throughout the Borghese gardens. There are also several bus routes that make stops nearby the Villa Giulia and throughout the gardens, including the 19, and 982 lines.
For those traveling from outside the city, Roma Termini is a 45-minutes walking distance to the museum, or a 25–30-minute transit using the Rome Metro. Alternatively, you could reach Villa Giulia faster by taking a taxi, or Uber, in under 10 minutes, at an expected cost of about 20 EUR.
Within the nearby Villa Borghese gardens, there are many popular tourist attractions close to Museo Nazionale Etrusco. You will find Italy’s National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art to the north, just beyond the Villa Giulia. Located towards the center of the gardens, are popular landmarks like the Temple of Aesculapius, the Piazza di Siena, Fonte Gaia, and Tempietto di Diana. To the east end of the gardens, is the Loggia dei vini.
Also, within the gardens, the Galleria Borghese is nearby, along with the Museo Carlo Bilotti, both art museums. La Casina di Raffaello is a toy library with a recreation centre, perfect for families and kids. Immediately to its south are two movie theatres, Cinema dei Piccoli, and Casa del Cinema.
To the south, beyond the gardens, Trevi Fontain can be reached in 10-minutes by car or 40-minutes by walking. Across the River Tiber, Museo Nazionale di Castel Sant'Angelo is a 30-minute walk. Further to the west, 10 minutes, are Vatican City and the Sistine Chapel.
Local hotels nearby include the Mangili Garden Hotel, just north of Villa Giulia. Further to the north are Suite Oriani, and The Hoxton. Towards the south end of the Borghese Gardens, there are more hotels, including Hotel Eden, The Code Hotel, and the Rome Marriott Grand Hotel Flora, all highly rated accommodations.
The Museo Nazionale Etrusco di Villa Giulia is centrally located within Rome and easy to reach by public transit, so it is a convenient place to visit it no matter where you are staying.
