Forum of Augustus was built by Julius Caesar Augustus, the first Roman Emperor. It is one of many imperial fora that were constructed over a period of a century and a half during the reign of the Roman Empire. It includes the Temple of Mars the Avenger.

Forum of Augustus can be found in ancient Rome's historic district, directly across the street from the Roman Forum. Forum of Augustus is easily accessible on the Rome Metro. Bus lines 75, 85, 87, 117, and 118 make regular stops at the Fori Imperiali station, directly in front of the site’s entrance, and Cavour/Ricci directly around the corner on Via Cavour. If you are traveling from Rome Termini station, the expected transit time is around 10 minutes, using public transit.

Rome Metro Line B (blue line) makes a stop at the nearby Colosseo station. The walking distance from Colosseo metro station to the Forum of Augustus is close to 10 minutes and passes by several popular tourist attractions including the Colosseum and the Victor Emmanuel II Monument. A ticket for the Rome Metro provides access to all buses, metro, trams, and suburban trains, with unlimited transfers for 100 minutes, and can be purchased for less than 2 EUR.

The Forum of Augustus is conveniently located near several important landmarks and popular attractions in Rome. Directly across the street, you will find the Basilica di Santa Maria in Aracoeli, and immediately next to it the Musei Capitolini. Also close by is Carcere Mamertino, a Roman prison that has been converted into a modern-day archaeological site, and the Temple of Jupiter Optimus Maximus, a Roman temple dedicated to the king of gods.

The nearby district of Centro Storico also has many popular tourist attractions. Here, you can find Piazza Navona, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, the Spanish Steps, and many many more cultural landmarks and historic sites. Slightly to the north, the district of Monti has a good reputation for its boutique shops, bars, trattorias and busy nightlife. It is also home to one of the four major papal basilicas, Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore.

North of Monti, in the district of Esquilino, is where you will find Roma Termini. It is the main railway station serving Rome, with routes to several major cities in Italy and Europe.
