As previously mentioned Gothenburg has a great location right by the water. You can find riverside sites in the Lindholm or Frihamnen areas with both museums and landmarks, and if you head out to the coast you reach the archipelago with more than 20 islands in various sizes to experience. There are also a couple of tourist attractions that require you to leave Gothenburg, such as Tjolöholm Castle that is located four miles south of the city and air force museum Aeroseum which is found a 25 minute drive north of the city center.
There are several ways of getting around Sweden’s second city, including a number of different options when it comes to public transportation. The public transportation is run by local company Västtrafik and conveniently enough you can use the same ticket no matter if you go by bus or tram – and there are even boats that are part of the public transportation system. Many times choosing to go by tram is the most accessible option, while these connect both the different parts of the city center with each other and the center itself with the suburbs and outskirts of Gothenburg.
Thanks to its fairly small size, Gothenburg is also a walkable town – especially if you want to experience the tourist attractions in the central parts of the city. Additionally there is the possibility of city sightseeing on hop-on hop-off buses and even boat sightseeing from the canal.
